IMPULSO researches into the technological development of automatic feeding systems controlled by an artificial sight-based fish biomass estimation system.
Impulso Industrial Alternativo, S.A. is performing the “System for the real-time determination of fish biomass based on 3D image processing and artificial sight for the optimisation of aquaculture feeding systems” experimental development project . This project, which is led by Impulso Industrial Alternativo, S.A., is being carried out in collaboration with the University of Oviedo’s Measuring System, Energy Storage and Industrial Applications Group.
The main objective of the system is to develop an automatic feeding system for fish farms controlled by a low-cost system that allows a real-time estimation of the fish biomass in an aquaculture facility, with minimal human intervention in order to optimise production costs. The goal is the maximum use of the food by the fish; in other words, the minimisation of the food conversion rate in order to optimise the growth and production yield and avoid fish overfeeding, which considerably harms the quality of the water, enhances the proliferation of diseases and fish mortality, etc.
Regarding the biomass estimating system, the aim is to improve the accuracy of the biomass estimating systems currently available by developing a system based on artificial sight as a smaller error than that of these systems.
This project is being co-financed by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness within the 2013-2016 National Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation and the European Regional Development Fund through the 2015 NATIONAL PROGRAMME FOR RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT AND INNOVATION ORIENTED TO THE CHALLENGES OF SOCIETY with case number RTC2015-4159-2
